PASTEL:

In November this year Museum Schloss Moyland will acquire by gift 60 pastels of Jacobus Kloppenburg. The date for the presentation is the 3^rd of November 2006. This selection gives an insight into the extraordinary fertility and creativity of the artist during a decade in which he produced a lyrical outpouring of his artistic fantasy, on sheet after sheet of brown paper, and with an amazing fluency in the medium of pastel. The recent publication by Bien and Healy on K gives an extensive account of the works. Part of the whole production are now in the containers in Amsterdam, rotting away, a fact that became dramatically visible to a national television audience when Waldo Bien opened one of the containers during the last visit to inspect the contents. The addition of works to those already in Moyland, consitute the most significant presence in any public collection of the pastels of Kloppenburg, which since their first exhibiting, have always excited wonder and admiration for the uncanny skills of which he has become such a resolute master.
